Ron Schara, an award-winning outdoor columnist for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and host of Minnesota Bound on KARE-11 TV, will be the Honorary Grand Marshall and Celebrity MC of the 41st Annual Frank Schneider, Jr. Memorial Muskie Tournament.
The 2008 event will take place on 21 lakes in the Bemidji-Cass-Walker-Longville area of northern Minnesota on September 5, 6, and 7, 2008.
The tournament is themed “Muskie Mania 2008” borrowed from a book of the same title published by Ron in 1977!
Inspired while once again reading Muskie Mania and realizing the tremendous improvements in the Minnesota muskie fishery since its writing, the tournament committee thought it quite appropriate to theme the event after the book title. The gains in muskie fishing over the last 30 years have been phenomenal, thanks to efforts of many. The committee felt that Ron Schara was the spokesperson to take us back though that journey.
The Twin Cities chapter of Muskies Inc. has been holding this fundraising tournament since the inception of the non-profit organization. Muskies, Inc with 45 chapters nationwide is dedicated to improving the muskie fishery and environment. It was the first recognized organization to promote the “catch and release” philosophy.
Lupient Buick/Pontiac/GMC has been selected to provide the “Official Truck of Muskie Mania 2008”. Muskie Mania 2008 will take place over 21 waters in the Bemidji-Cass-Walker-Longville area of northern Minnesota on September 5, 6, and 7.
Themed after a book written by Ron Schara of Minnesota Bound in 1977, the Event will be a celebration realizing the tremendous improvements in the Minnesota muskie fishery since its writing with Ron Schara as Grand Marshall and celebrity MC. A recent DNR study found that of 1.6 million licensed anglers in Minnesota, 14% or 224,000 prefer the Muskie as their favorite fish to pursue.
Lupient Group has been serving the Area for over 30 years and has a long heritage of involvement in numerous Community Activities. Currently they are supporting local high schools by helping them promote school activities. “Committed to excellence and dedicated to Caring, this opportunity with Muskies, Inc. will give us an opportunity to help the Minnesota Fishery and DNR while supporting another 41 year old, local non-profit”, said Rob Stewart, Lupient General Manager”
“In the 40 year history of the tournament, we have always used a Boat as our Grand Prize said Ron Sanders, 2008 Tournament Chairman, but this year we decided on giving a Truck.” As an added attraction, the winner will receive a $30,000 Certificate, redeemable for any Lupient GMC/Pontiac/Buick vehicle (truck or car) which can be split between partners, should they wish. As a Family Event, we believe this will encourage more women and younger families to participate. Lupient will also provide three demo trucks that will be seen throughout the State and in other events promoting “Muskie Mania 2008”.
